Staffing Organisation
494 Sqn is organised in a similar way to most ATC Squadrons and is organised according to the chain of command. The chain of command is only relevant to uniform members of the Corps and this can be seen in the diagram below. Civilian Instructors form an integral part of the Sqn, but are not part of the chain of command. The Sqn currently has four uniformed members of staff and five Civilian Instructors (CI’s).

The Flight Structure
494 Sqn’s cadet structure is broken down into operating units called ‘Flights’. These are normally commanded by a Cadet Sergeant who in turn has a Second in Command (2IC) and two ‘Sections’ each commanded by a Cadet Corporal. Cadets would then use the chain of command to solve issues or ask questions. The Sqn has two main ‘Flights’ called Strike and Eagle and they annually take place in a Flight competition which consist of competitions such as drill, shooting, obstacle course and command tasks. This helps to create an environment of competition and encourages best performance at all times.
