494 Sqn’s Cadet NCO’s are selected through a proven system of ‘Potential NCO Cadre’s’. This operates in a similar manner to NCO selection procedures in the regular armed forces.

Cadets are invited to apply in writing for a place on a cadre. Upon consideration and selection by the OC they are invited to attend a one day selection course based on shorter version of the RAF Officer and Aircrew Selection Centre course (OASC) at RAF Cranwell.
