Every year Cadets are given the opportunity to attend an Easter or Summer Camp on an operational RAF station, anywhere in the United Kingdom. These camps typically last one week (normally Saturday to Saturday or Wednesday to Wednesday) with the primary purpose of letting cadets see what life is like on an RAF Station. It is also an excellent opportunity to make new friends from different squadrons and experience new activities. Cadets are normally accommodated in barrack block accommodation or tents and eat in the Junior Ranks Mess (JRM). Cadets are normally split into ‘Flights’ with cadets from other units from around the Wing or Region. Cadets are given the opportunity to visit various section around the Stations such as:
- Flying Squadrons
- Engineering Squadrons
- RAF Police
- RAF Regiment
- Air Traffic Control
- Fighter Control
- Medical Centre
Social activities such as disco and bowling are also common. Each cadet is normally provided with a flight either with one of the Stations flying units or with an Air Experience Flight (AEF) if there is one based locally.
Each camp also includes an ‘inter-flight’ competition where each flight is pitted against each other in activities such as sport, drill and room and uniform inspections. There is also awards for the Best Cadet and Best NCO.
There is even the opportunity to visit one of the RAF Stations overseas. In recent years cadets have visited Germany, Gibraltar and Cyprus.
