494 Sqn form part of Essex Wing which joins five other Wings to form London & South East Region or LASER as it is often referred to. The region is commanded by Group Captain Les Hakin RAFR and is managed by his team of senior officers based at RAF Northolt. The region currently consists of the following Wings:

- Sussex
- Kent
- Surrey
- London
- Middlesex
